Watch How to Apply Liquid Foundation

Here’s an opportunity to watch Paula Begoun, the Cosmetics Cop, demonstrate how she applies  a liquid foundation.  She prefers to put her foundation on before concealer.  Also, she says that she only uses a toner, rather than moisturizer, since she has oily skin.  I have always found that some kind of oil-free moisturizer or primer makes my foundation last longer.  Paula uses her own foundation, but there are other liquid ones you can use which will also help with your acne if you have oily skin, such as the Neutrogena Skin Clearing foundation.

Take a look at the video and grab a few tips from Paula.

Ingredients to Avoid in Acne Makeup

UPDATE:  Please read this update first before reading the rest of this post.

I recently discovered more information about the list compiled by James Fulton and how that research was done.  My new information comes from Paula Begoun’s book “The Original Beauty Bible“.  She points out that this research was done with much larger concentrations of these ingredients than would ever be used in any makeup product.  What this really means is that we don’t have to be scared off by products that might contain one, or even more,  of the ingredients listed below.  Instead, look at where the ingredient is placed in the list on the product label.  The higher on the list the ingredient is, the higher the concentration in the product.  Therefore, if the second ingredient listed is one of the ‘pore-clogging’ ones below, then it is probably a significant ingredient in that product and is not a great choice.  If it is near the end of the list of ingredients, then you probably do not need to get too concerned.  Alternatively, you can always judge by the way the product feels on your skin.  If it feels too creamy or greasy for you then it probably is.

bareMinerals Multi-Tasking Face Concealer Review

Bare Escentuals Multi-Tasking concealer

Description:

This is a mineral-based powder concealer with SPF 20 that can be used for many purposes, including concealing acne and other skin imperfections.  Bare Escentuals also describes it as a soft eyeshadow base and good for covering dark circles under eyes.  It is oil-free, as well as free of other chemicals and ingredients that typically cause sensitivity reactions.

Summary of Reviews:

Bare Escentuals advertises its makeup as “so pure you can sleep in it”.  While any acne expert will tell you that sleeping in your makeup is a VERY bad idea, Bare Escentuals’ line of mineral makeup is one of the most popular ones around for people with acne.  It gets consistently high ratings and most users say that it does not aggravate their acne at all.  In fact, most of the hundreds of reviews we looked at raved about this product.  The only real complaint is about the color choice.  The lightest color is still a little too dark for those with very fair skin.
