There is a lot of competition over whether mineral makeup or airbrush makeup is the best makeup for acne prone skin.  I have always loved Bare Escentuals bareMinerals makeup, (also referred to as bare minerals or bare essentials).  However, with all the hype around air brush makeup systems I felt it was time to give one a try.

I decided to try the TEMPTU AirBrush Makeup System since I could get a demonstration at my local Sephora store.  My first thoughts on looking at the system was that there was no way I was going to use something that complicated, that big, or that expensive.  The salesperson assured me that it would not be difficult to use.  There was nothing she could do about the expense since it is a standard price and no discounts are offered.

It was easy enough to find a shade, even for my pale skin, so I cleaned off the makeup I was wearing and we began.  There was no need for a primer since it is built into the foundation itself.  As the salesperson applied the airbrush makeup, all I felt was a cool breeze.  It did not feel like I had any makeup being applied.  However, when I looked at my skin in the mirror it looked absolutely flawless.  No redness and nothing in my pores.

She then proceeded to apply highlighter, blush and bronzer using the same air brush machine.  Again, my skin looked perfect.  I just had to let it dry before touching it.  The one thing I did do was pat the area around my eyes, since I had scrunched up my eyes a bit and the makeup had wrinkled there.  Patting it down a little took care of that issue.

After letting the makeup dry for a little while, the only thing I did was apply some of my bareMinerals Mineral Veil for a little oil absorption.  I think the illuminating finisher from the TEMPTU looked a little too shiny for my liking and my Mineral Veil gave it a better feel.

Many hours later and lots of running around and my skin still looks fantastic.  I think this is an excellent system for anyone looking to get a flawless, natural finish. For people with acne, this is an especially good system since it does not get into your pores and will not make you break out.  The downside is the expense.  At $225 for the airbrush machine and $55 for two pods of makeup, it is difficult to decide whether to lay out the money.  My plan is to use my bareMinerals for general every day use and use the air brush makeup for going out at night, when I need a little extra coverage, for a big event, or when I know I will be on the go all day.  For you, that might mean a wedding, anniversary, prom, bar mitzvah, job interview, corporate event, or anytime you want to look your absolute best.  Of course, you will look gorgeous in any photo – without the touchups of Photo Shop!

As a fellow acne sufferer, I know how difficult it is to find the best makeup for acne prone skin. Most of them are far too obvious when applied and they don’t necessarily give the coverage we wish for. Having tried the TEMPTU AIRbrush Makeup System recently, I think I have found the ideal makeup that provides the coverage and natural finish we strive for.

For acne prone skin, the benefits of airbrush makeup are clear:

  • Does not clog your pores. The airbrush machine sprays a fine mist of makeup onto your skin without pushing it into your pores, as most other makeup does.
  • Gives even coverage. There were no streaks or unevenness at all when I used the system. So long as you don’t touch it while it is drying, the color is uniform all over your face.
  • Adjustable coverage. The TEMPTU system has a dial where you can adjust the amount of coverage you want. When I tried it, I had it set on less coverage and then just added a little more in places that needed it.
  • Flawless, natural finish. You don’t look as if you are wearing makeup at all. Your skin just looks as if it is naturally clear and healthy.
  • Blush and bronzer are equally safe for acne prone skin. There was nothing in the blush or bronzer that would clog your pores either AND they look completely natural.

I don’t usually feel that strongly about a particular makeup, but the TEMPTU AIRbrush Makeup System really did make my face look incredible and it concealed everything. If you let it dry completely and then finish it with some bareMineral Mineral Veil, you will also have oil control for the day. TEMPTU sells the TEMPTU RETOUCH Powder as well, which you can purchase to take care of any areas that might need a little extra coverage during the day. I didn’t try it or need it, but you may want to if you don’t already own some kind of touchup or oil control powder. You will definitely need to buy both the airbrush machine and a set of two TEMPTU AIR pod(TM) Foundation. Once you have the machine, you will only need to restock on the makeup pods every few months depending on how much of it you use.

Since the TEMPTU system is quite expensive compared to other makeup, ($225 for the machine and $55 for two makeup pods) I recommend using it for special occasions and long days. I use just a little concealer and powder or my bareMinerals makeup on other days. That way the makeup will last longer. However, there are many people who love the look they get from their airbrush makeup systems that they use it everyday.

I recommend buying the TEMPTU AIRbrush Makeup System from Amazon.com since they carry all the different items in the line and, as usual, their prices are competitive and they are reliable.

Best Mineral Makeup: Bare Escentuals

Bare Essentials Bare Minerals Makeup

bareMinerals Get Started Kit

Review:

I have tried different brands of mineral makeup, including drugstore brands and those available only online.  There is one brand that stood head and shoulders above the others – Bare Escentuals bareMinerals (often misspelled as bare mineral makeup or bare essentials makeup).  Their price was an excellent value compared to others, especially for those starting out for whom the bareMinerals Get Started Kit is ideal.

Watch How to Apply Liquid Foundation

Here’s an opportunity to watch Paula Begoun, the Cosmetics Cop, demonstrate how she applies  a liquid foundation.  She prefers to put her foundation on before concealer.  Also, she says that she only uses a toner, rather than moisturizer, since she has oily skin.  I have always found that some kind of oil-free moisturizer or primer makes my foundation last longer.  Paula uses her own foundation, but there are other liquid ones you can use which will also help with your acne if you have oily skin, such as the Neutrogena Skin Clearing foundation.

Take a look at the video and grab a few tips from Paula.
