Jane Iredale Cosmetics Now Available

Jane Iredale PurePressed Base Pressed Mineral Powder SPF 20 Light BeigeI just found out that SkinStore.com is now selling Jane Iredale cosmetics. This is a popular brand that I’ve been meaning to try out for quite awhile, so now is a great time. I’ll post a review once I have some experience with it. I love the fact that it is made with natural ingredients, no parabens, oils, etc. It is supposed to be great for sensitive skin and those with eczema or rosacea.

My plan is to try the Jane Iredale PurePressed Base Pressed Mineral Powder SPF 20 Light Beige and probably a concealer. Meanwhile, if you want to head over and check it out for yourself, use my link below:

How to Fight Dry Skin and Acne in the Winter

Boscia Recharging Night Moisture
Just as you think you can breathe a sigh of relief from the oily skin of summer, you have to start battling winter and the resulting dry skin. Acne, however, doesn’t seem to understand that it’s supposed to disappear now! All because you skin hasn’t gotten a little drier doesn’t mean your acne has gone away. In fact, it can be more difficult than ever to clear up or keep your skin clear of zits when it is already dry.

As the cold winter air dries up my skin, I have started pulling out the big guns for moisture. The ultra light lotions are back in the drawer and I have just been trying out a new moisturizer these past two weeks. With sensitive skin, it has to be something really gentle and pure. Boscia Recharging Night Moisture has been working great, without any breakouts at all. I even add a little of my favorite Clinique Moisture Surge on top if I feel exceptionally dry.

Normally, I shy away from anything that has the word “night” in its name. To me, that means heavy and greasy. However, I discovered that the Boscia Recharging Night Moisture isn’t that different from the day one. It just doesn’t have any sunscreen in it. For those of us who break out from chemical sunscreens, this is a godsend. Sunscreen is essential, but the physical barrier ones, like titanium dioxide or zinc, are far more gentle and less likely to irritate your skin. I’m actually surprised that Boscia, an all natural brand, has chemical sunscreen in their day moisturizer. Needless to say, I’m sticking with the nighttime moisturizer.

Here is what the Boscia makers say about their moisturizer:

Boscia Recharging Night Moisture is a concentrated cream of Oriental botanicals works overnight to nourish and revitalize your skin.An advanced penetrating, Encapsulated Ampelopsis Grossedentata, absorbs quickly to condition skin and diminish the appearance of wrinkles. Phytoglycogen helps restore the look of vitality to damaged skin. Hydrolyzed Yeast promotes new skin cell production while Soybean helps balance skin from the sometimes harsh effects of hormonal and environmental changes. Jojoba Leaf, a powerful antioxidant, combats free radical damage and Willow Herb, soothes tired skin.

Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, I take all these miracle descriptions with a grain of salt. The proof is in the results on your own skin, not 100 other people. For me, this moisturizer has been fantastic. No more flakiness, no extra oiliness from a rich moisturizer, and even my fine lines are disappearing!  Even more important? No pimples!

Who can benefit from Boscia Recharging Night Moisture?

  • People with dry skin and acne
  • Those who are suffering from temporary dryness from overdoing the topical acne medications
  • Anyone who is suffering some dryness during the colder months
  • People who need a good daytime moisturizer, without the irritating chemical sunscreens

Who should avoid it?

  • Anyone with oily skin. Stick with lighter weight, oil-free lotions like the one from Kinerase.

Where to buy Boscia Recharging Night Moisture?

  • Ulta carries it online and always has a Free Shipping coupon code listed at the top of the site.
  • SkinStore.com is always one of my favorite places for skin care. They seem to consistently have 2 or 3 deals going on at any one time. I just checked now and they have 10% off for friends and family, free shipping over $49, and 15% off plus a free gift for over $79.

My advice is to go to SkinStore.com and take advantage of their latest deals. However, if you have an Ulta store near you, buy from them online (using their free shipping). Then you can always return it to the store if you have a problem.

Good luck and let’s hope this weather starts warming up soon. Just too much snow around here in the Northeast!

Sharyn

P.S. It’s now been three weeks and my flakiness has gone away with no more breakouts. So far, so good.

Clarisonic Review: Clarisonic Skincare Brush

Clarisonic Exclusive Mia ARCONA Set
I had to post this Clarisonic review as soon as possible since I have had the most amazing results from it. After being advised by a salesman in Nordstrom, I recently purchased the Clarisonic Skincare Brush Set for both my son and daughter to use for their acne. I bought the smallest one, the Mia, since it was both the cheapest and it seemed to be all that was needed.

The Clarisonic Mia is the smallest of the different Clarisonic skincare brushes. It was originally meant for travel, but I see no reason why it can’t be used for every day. This is especially true since we already have plenty of junk by the sink. Who needs more clunky items to crowd up the space? Anyway, the one speed that the Mia offers is plenty, unless you have tough skin. Most people with acne, however, have quite sensitive skin.

The beauty of this device is that it gently cleans out the pores far more effectively than washing by hand. It is also much more gently than any wash cloth or scrub. My daughter has extremely sensitive skin and is not having any problem with added irritation. In fact, it is reducing her little blackheads and whiteheads significantly. For my son, the benefits are going to take longer. However, after only a few uses I can see that the blackheads are going away along with some of the flakiness from overusing his acne medicines.

According to an article on About.com,

The Clarisonic Skincare Brush Set is one of those rare products that is beloved by most everyone who tries it. Basically a tool for cleansing the face, you use the Clarisonic with your favorite cleanser to deep clean your pores. A great exfoliator, but with a hefty pricetag (up to $200).
I bought mine for only $149, but I could just kick myself.  Now I see it online at Skinstore.com for the same price, but with a 20% discount.  They have the more expensive versions also, with multiple speeds.  They also do a regular 10% off and free shipping for orders over $49.  Oh well, I’ll know better next time.
Just a couple tips on using the Clarisonic:
  • Put your cleanser directly on the brush
  • Don’t press hard on your skin – let the brush do the work
  • You really only need about a minute to clean your skin. More time might cause some irritation
  • Try it with your own cleanser first before trying the one that comes with it

Give it a try.  I hope you get as good results as we did.  Worst case scenario is that you return it. The Clarisonic has a 60 day guarantee.

Best of luck!

Sharyn

P.S. Definitely go to Skinstore.com and get the discount to save up to $30 on it.

P.P.S. My rationalization for buying the Clarisonic is that it is a LOT cheaper than going for a facial, or even a few more trips to the dermatologist!

Treatment for Mature Skin With Acne

Oil of Olay Total Effects Skin Smoothing Serum

This product has been a recent life-saver for me.  As I have gotten older, I have noticed more skin discoloration and uneven tone.  I tried quite a few products and then my daughter told me to try the Oil of Olay Total Effects line.  I figured I might as well save a little money and head to the drug store instead of the department store, though you can get this for less money on Amazon.  Sure enough, this product has made my skin smoother and more even toned.  I definitely recommend it for mature skin with acne.  Even my husband commented that my skin was looking great – and he doesn’t normally notice these sorts of things!

Tinted Moisturizer by Stila

Stila Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer

I love Stila makeup and this tinted moisturizer I received as part of a kit. It provides just a little color for my pale skin without making it break out. It is best for combination or dry skin. If you are oily, stick with the Laura Mercier oil-free one.
