Amazing Cosmetics Concealer Review

Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer Medium Beige
The Amazing Cosmetics Concealer is a thick, full-coverage concealer that comes in a 0.5 oz. tube. It is meant to be used to conceal anything from acne to dark circles.

My hypersensitive skin did not have a good reaction to this concealer, but it worked very well under my eyes. The coverage is truly full-coverage and a little goes a very long way. It also comes in a pretty extensive range of colors, especially for fair skin like my own. The problems most people have with this concealer are its price and its ingredients. Since it is not oil-free, this concealer can potentially cause break outs for people with very sensitive skin.

Pros:

  • Great range of shades
  • Full coverage
  • A little goes a long way

Cons:

  • Ingredients might not agree with those who are sensitive to mineral oils
  • Pricey (However, the travel size tube is much less expensive.)
  • Difficult to blend (You definitely need to use a concealer brush or small sponge to blend effectively.)

This concealer is best for:

  • People who need maximum coverage for under eye circles or skin imperfections such as acne, pigmentation, or scarring.

Tips for using the Amazing Cosmetics Concealer:

  • Apply to a well-moisturized and primed base
  • Only use a tiny amount!
  • Use a concealer brush with synthetic fibers or a small makeup sponge to dab the concealer onto your skin and blend it out.
  • Set with a translucent powder for long-wearing coverage.

Where to buy:

I highly recommend SkinStore.com for this particular concealer since they have the complete Amazing Cosmetics line, so you can explore all the colors and options, including their concealer brush (an absolute must for applying any concealer!).  They have a great setting powder too.

Makeup for Rosacea: How to Cover Rosacea

woman with rosaceaPeople with rosacea often confuse it with acne due the redness associated with it.  Any blemishes you have may be more related to your rosacea than acne.  While there are a number of treatments for rosacea, your dermatologist can give you a topical treatment to help heal or control it. In this article, I will focus primarily on how to use makeup for rosacea in order to conceal it.

As with normal acne, you need to use a concealer to neutralize the redness associated with your rosacea.  Green is the most common color used, though some people will react better to a yellowish concealer.  Skin that is more fair may look too greenish when a green concealer is used.   If you have to use a lot of foundation over the green concealer, it defeats the purpose and you will have to layer on too much makeup.  Use a yellow concealer in this case and experiment with the amount needed.

As with acne, many people prefer using mineral makeup for covering rosacea.  The fact that mineral makeup has fewer ingredients and chemicals  means that there are less things to irritate your skin.  Use a greenish or yellowish powder first and then your foundation powder afterwards.

I have also found that a tattoo concealer, like Kat Von D Tattoo Concealer, can help cover very small areas of rosacea or acne scars.  Just be careful not to use too much since it is very creamy.
Cover FX
makes a heavier concealer and foundation that you can match precisely to your skin tone and set with powder.  It lasts a long time and is more waterproof than other foundations.

Try to use products that have as few chemicals as possible to prevent irritation to your skin and aggravation of your rosacea.  In addition, use very gentle makeup removers at the end of the day.  I like Boscia’s Makeup Breakup Cleansing Oil, or the Soy Cleanser by Fresh.  After cleansing, apply your rosacea treatment, or just a very gentle moisturizer.  Be careful of using any acne treatments in the areas where you have rosacea since they can just make it worse.

If you havent’ done so already, go to a dermatologist to get your rosacea diagnosed properly.  He or she will be able to tell you whether it is rosacea or acne and will give you the correct treatment to try.  Unfortunately, rosacea can actually be harder to treat, and to conceal, than acne.  Most people grow out of acne eventually, whereas rosacea can be a lifelong condition.

Below are a two great products for skin with rosacea from DERMAdoctor.  I’ve used the Calm, Cool and Corrected myself and it does an amazing job of calming any redness.  Check them out and just make sure you test anything on a small patch of skin first.

I have also heard that Afterglow Cosmetics are fantastic for sensitive skin.

Any suggestions for other rosacea makeup?  What has worked best for you?  Let me know by commenting below.

PS – Here’s a link to a green mineral makeup concealer by Beau Monde.  It got 4 stars at Amazon and is one of the only green mineral powder concealers I’ve been able to find.  I haven’t tried it, but it meets all the criteria.

The Eraser 4-in-1 Natural Concealer

There is a great tip for how to cover acne scars that I only just came across recently. After years of practice and experience covering my acne and acne scars, I should have known this.  Better late than never.

Here is the trick:

** Let your concealer set for a few seconds before you blend. **

Sounds so obvious, doesn’t it?  Well, I am always in such a rush that I’ve never done that.  It is amazing the difference it makes.

The next time you put on your makeup, follow these steps to cover your acne scars, pimples, discoloration.  You name it.

  1. Wash your skin
  2. Apply your preferred acne treatment
  3. Apply your preferred moisturizer
  4. Put on a little primer
  5. Dab on a little concealer
  6. Let it set for a few seconds!!!
  7. Blend by dabbing gently or using a concealer brush to blend the edges
  8. Finish off with a little foundation, but don’t rub it in.  Otherwise, all your careful concealer application will be ruined.  If you can, just use a little powder foundation instead of liquid

I would love to hear anyone else’s tips for covering acne scars or covering acne in general.  Comments are always welcome.

The Best Acne Makeup

At Makeup for Acne, we are always searching for the best acne makeup.  Finding makeup that is safe for acne prone skin involves much more than just reading the label for ingredients.  Everyone’s skin reacts differently to specific ingredients and it is important to know this before blindly applying the latest product that everyone is raving about.  Know your own skin and what makes you break out.  Keep track of what is in a product that you have reacted to in the past.  Look for makeup and acne skin care products that have as few ingredients as possible.  And, most important of all, make sure you try out a new product on a small part of your face or neck to see what your reaction will be before putting it on your whole face.

Some of the products I list are not necessarily designed or marketed for acne prone skin, but I’ve had great results with them.  In fact, many makeup products that are made specifically for acne can aggravate your skin further if you are already using an acne treatment.  Ingredients like salicylic acid, often added to acne makeup, can overdry your skin if you have already applied something like benzoyl peroxide. Consider your own skin’s sensitivity and how dry or oily it is before selecting a product.

Have fun trying out different makeup!

P.S. I often go to the sites advertised on the right to explore reviews on different products. Don’t just listen to sales associates in cosmetic stores. They are often just promoting the latest makeup they’ve been trained on. Use the websites online to get real user reviews. You can always return something if it doesn’t work out for you.

You are getting ready to head out the door to school, work, a party, dinner, shopping – you name it. Naturally, you want to look your best and feel good about yourself.  When you have acne, you are often more self-conscious about your looks than other people.  However, you can achieve a natural look with the right application techniques and tools.  Use acne makeup or any good makeup for acne prone skin, such as some of the ones recommended in our product reviews or store.  Just make sure you have thoroughly cleansed and moisturized your skin first, using your preferred acne skin care regimen, before applying your makeup.
